Tips on How To Clean Your Carpet

Useful tips on how to clean your carpet

Rugs used to cover floors are an essential part of most homes. Whatever your reasons are for having them, their care and maintenance are much more important. It not only makes them last longer but keeping them clean also shields you from numerous health hazards. There is a lot to be learned from the infographic on the best way to care for these mats.

Stains should be blotted, not rubbed

To start with, stains on the mat should never be rubbed hard since doing so only makes it worse. You are supposed to get a cleaning solution and tidy cloth, paper, towel, or sponge. The next step is to use these items and apply a small amount of pressure on the stain to soak it up. That action is what we refer to as blotting and should be done from outside of the stain going inward.

Club soda is also good for stain removal

The only catch, in this case, is that you have to use it correctly. Put the soda on a cloth and use it to blot the stained area. Should it fail to work, you have the option of mixing equal amounts of white vinegar and water in a handheld sprayer. You should then spray on the affected area and wait for 10 to 15 minutes. The next step would be to press a clean sponge on the place so as to soak up the stain and solution. This could be repeated a couple of times for useful results.

The shaving cream

This is one of the best stain removers you may not have known about. You simply have to apply it directly to the stain and leave it for 30 minutes. Once it has set, you should blot with a dry white cloth and finish up by spraying the vinegar and water mixture. After wiping off the mixture, there would be no sign of a smudge anywhere.

Ice cubes for dried gum

When it comes to dried gum, the best remedy is to get some ice cubes and freeze it for 30 seconds. As soon as it is frozen solid, you should get something to raise it up and cut the strands of rug closer to the gum. A small cut would hardly get noticed.

Dishwasher detergent for grease removal

Grease is one of those stains that give people a hard time. Thankfully, the same grease-cutting dishwashing detergent used on dishes can also work on your floor cover. Get a spray bottle, put the solution inside and spray on the stained area. What follows is blotting and in case it does not come off immediately you would have to repeat the procedure until the spot is clean.

Heating wax stain

Lastly, any wax that may have fallen and embedded itself in your nappy floor covering can be removed by warming it up before scrapping off. You will need a white cloth which is placed over your iron and then put on top of the wax. A butter knife can be used to scrape off when it is molten. What follows is laying a paper towel on the area and then iron so that when the wax melts it binds to the journal. A couple of applications later and there would be no more wax to worry about.
